Duration: 6 days
Day 1
Tangier – Tetouan – Chaouen
The first day of this 5-day Morocco tour is dedicated to discovering the main attractions of the northern part of the country. Upon arrival in Tangier, our agency staff will pick you up at the port or airport in a private vehicle to begin the journey.
Depending on your plane or ferry arrival time, the itinerary may include a first stop in Tetouan, a city declared a World Heritage Site and full of attractions. Among them, its white historic medina and the Spanish influence are still visible in its streets, as it was the capital of the Spanish Protectorate during the first half of the 20th century.
In the afternoon, you will arrive in Chaouen or Chefchaouen, also called ‘the Blue City’ for the stunning appearance of its historic center, full of houses painted in this color. You will have free time to explore the picturesque narrow streets of the medina and reach viewpoints with spectacular panoramic views, from where you can see the busy urban center and the mountainous Rif surroundings.
In the evening, you will rest in a charming Riad located in the Medina.
Day 2
Chaouen – Fez
After breakfast at the Riad in Chaouen, our 5-day express Morocco tour continues to Fez. We will arrive in this city after a scenic drive leaving behind the mountains and forests of the Rif, ending in this UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its history and beauty.
We will spend the rest of the day exploring its attractions with the help of an official guide. The visit will take us through the most important places, many located within the medina and its surroundings. These may include the Al-Karaouine Mosque, which houses the medersa of the same name and is one of the oldest educational institutions in Islam; Nejjarine Square, famous for its fountain; the Bou Inania medersa; the tanners’ quarter; the Mellah (Jewish quarter); and the golden gates of the royal palace, among other highlights.
After the guided tour, there will be free time to shop in the prestigious craft souks or to deepen your knowledge of the city in its museums. At the end of the day, you will enjoy a well-deserved night’s rest in a charming Riad.
Day 3
Fez – Ifrane – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Desert Dunes
After breakfast, included at your Riad in Fez, we will head south toward the Sahara Desert. Along the way, there will be landscapes and places of great interest where we can stop to take pictures and discover some of their charms.
One of the first stops may be Ifrane, known as the ‘Moroccan Switzerland’ for its striking gabled buildings. In winter, it is covered with snow, as it is located at 1,713 meters above sea level, in the middle of the Middle Atlas Mountains. The landscape becomes greener and more wooded as we approach Cedar National Park, located between this town and Azrou, also known as Monkey Park due to the large population of Barbary macaques, which are endangered.
Crossing the Middle Atlas, we will continue through the Ziz Valley to Erfoud, located in the desert and famous for its wealth of fossils and marble quarries. Soon after, we will arrive at the last town, Merzouga, where we will board another mode of transport: dromedaries (replaceable by 4×4 vehicles). On the backs of these animals, we will reach the spectacular dunes of Erg Chebbi. In this golden sea, the sunset light creates a uniquely magical color.
The camel ride concludes at our tented camp, located in the heart of the desert. A Berber tea will be waiting as a welcoming gesture. Here you will have dinner and spend the night in a traditional Berber tent, all under a starry sky of unparalleled brilliance.
Day 4
Merzouga Desert Dunes – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley – Ouarzazate
On the fourth day of this 5-day Morocco tour, an early start is perfect to watch the sunrise over the dunes of Erg Chebbi—a truly unique spectacle. Afterward, and following breakfast at the camp, we will ride camels back to the town of Merzouga. There will also be time for a shower (either at the camp or in a hotel, depending on the package chosen).
From Merzouga, we will continue our journey by private vehicle. The first stop is Rissani, a desert town that still preserves a traditional lifestyle, visible in its medina, market, and donkey parking area. From there, we will head to the Dades Valley and its surroundings, where the road will offer some special surprises. For example, the Todra Gorges—a rocky canyon with natural walls reaching up to 200 meters at some points.
Along the way, palm groves dot the landscape, competing with Berber fortresses made of adobe. This signals that we are on the Route of the Thousand Kasbahs. We will be fortunate to visit one of them this day: Taourirt Kasbah in Ouarzazate, a city known as the “Hollywood of Morocco” for its film studios.
After visiting the Taourirt Kasbah, with its traditional Berber architecture (adobe, ceramics, wood, etc.), we will spend the night in a hotel in Ouarzazate, where dinner is also included.
Day 5
Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
Breakfast on the fifth day will give us the energy to complete the final leg of this 5-day Morocco tour. The first stop is just a few kilometers from Ouarzazate: the ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, a remarkably well-preserved fortified village. In addition to retaining its traditional Berber charm, it has been declared a World Heritage Site for its historical and artistic value. Fans of Game of Thrones may recognize it, as scenes from the third season were filmed here.
After visiting this ksar, we return to the road with the goal of crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass, which rises to about 2,260 meters above sea level. Along the ascent and descent, we’ll enjoy a series of panoramic views and picturesque villages perched on the slopes—perfect for photography.
From here, we’re only about 100 km away from Marrakech, the final destination of both this day and the entire 5-day Morocco tour. Upon arrival, you’ll enjoy a free afternoon and spend the night in a charming riad located in the medina.
