4 days Morocco desert tour from Errachidia

Day 1: Arrival in Errachidia – Merzouga

We will pick you up at Errachidia airport and drive south to the desert of Merzouga. Dinner and overnight in a hotel in Merzouga.

Day 2: Merzouga exploration – Nomads – Khamlia Village – Merzouga Lake – Erg Chebbi – Palm grove

After breakfast, we will spend the day exploring the Merzouga region, an area full of natural wonders such as sand dunes, a wild lake, ancient mines, fossils and impressive oases.

We will start with an off-road visit to an ancient kohl mine. Then, we will visit the nomads in their traditional tents to learn about their way of life while having a Berber tea. Later, we will head to the village of Khamlia, where we will enjoy Gnaoua music and traditional dances. The inhabitants of this community come from sub-Saharan African countries such as Mali, Sudan and Niger.

After lunch at a local restaurant, we will take a walk through an oasis of palm trees and visit the lake of Merzouga, known as the “lake of the flamingos”.

In the afternoon, we will ride a camel across the desert to a luxury camp in the middle of the Erg Chebbi dunes. We will stop at the top of a high dune to enjoy the sunset. At the camp, a magical night awaits us with Berber drum music around the campfire under a starry sky. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

Day 3: Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley

After breakfast, departure to Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalet. Its lively souk is still an important commercial center, especially on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

After a tour of the souk of Rissani, we will continue to Erfoud to visit a fossilized marble workshop. Then, we will cross the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad to reach the impressive Todra Gorges, where the river has carved a canyon of reddish walls ideal for climbing enthusiasts. There will be free time to explore the area and have lunch in a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, we will head to the Dades Valley, passing through Boumalne Dades. We will make stops to admire the famous rock formation of “monkey fingers” and a viewpoint with panoramic views of the valley. Dinner and overnight in a hotel in the Dades Valley.

Day 4: Dades Valley – Valley of the Roses – Skoura Palm groves – Ouarzazate – Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou – High Atlas – Marrakech

On the last day of the tour, we will travel to Kalaa Magouna to visit the Valley of the Roses, where the annual Rose Festival is held in May. Here you can find products derived from the rose, such as perfumes, rose water, oils and cosmetics.

We will continue our tour through the palm groves of Skoura before arriving in Ouarzazate, the gateway to the desert. We will visit the film studios where many famous movies have been filmed.

Then, we will head to the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This fortress has served as a backdrop for films such as Gladiator, Alexander the Great, The Mummy and series such as Game of Thrones.

Finally, we will cross the Tizi-n-Tichka pass in the High Atlas Mountains, stopping for lunch and photo opportunities at scenic points. We will arrive in Marrakech in the afternoon, where we will drop you off at the airport or at your accommodation.
